Batiquitos Lagoon hosts a free presentation at 10 a.m. July 13 on “Living with Native Plants” led by Greg Rubin, author of “The California Native Landscape.” Rubin will discuss the design, installation and maintenance of native ecology in a garden. This family-friendly event is open to ages 15 and older. Meet at the Nature Center, 7380 Gabbiano Lane. Registration is required atThe Forum Carlsbad Discovery Days, a free summer series for all ages, kicks off from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
July 22-27: All Western-themed books and movies will be 50 percent off in honor of Day of the Cowboy. Volunteers at San Diego Habitat for Humanity’s annual Women Build event. San Diego Habitat for Humanity’s 16th annual Women Build drew more than 170 women from across San Diego County. Volunteer builders restored the safety of a Logan Heights duplex, which was damaged from flooding during January’s rainstorms. The project included repairing the duplex’s exterior and replacing the deteriorating fencing along with planting drought- and flood-resistant landscaping.
