Dozens turned out to ask regulators to say no to a facility that could eventually release 600,000 gallons per day into the Comal River.
Sarah Mercer, founder of Save Our Hill Country, expresses her concerns to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality about a permit which, if approved, would allow for a wastewater treatment plant to be built on Douglas Harrison’s Comal County land at a public hearing held at Smithson Valley High School in Spring Branch, Texas, Thursday, June 8, 2023.
If built, the facility would discharge the treated wastewater into the West Fork of Dry Comal Creek, which feeds into the Dry Comal Creek and eventually the Comal River. Many said they are concerned about potential pollution of the Comal River and other waterways, as well as damage to the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone, which is downstream from the proposed facility.
