Union-Tribune columnist Nick Canepa grades the Chargers after their 20-3 win Monday night against the Indianapolis Colts on the road.
Justin Herbert, after miles of throws, finally, officially, is a playoff quarterback. As usual, he got off to a slow start. And, as usual, he warmed up, his receivers found open spots, his perfect pitch returned and he found his rhythm. His lost fumble with a 13-3 third-quarter lead could have been critical, but the Colts screwed things up. A whole lot of short stuff. His only pick was tipped off Keenan Allen’s chest. But, back-to-back weeks, with no TD passes.
Morgan Fox had two sacks, followed by Chris Rumph.Kenneth Murray dropped a pick, but he’s starting to play to his first-round billing. Kyle Van Noy had a 9-yard TFL and a fourth-quarter sack. Drew Tranquill had a sack, then Murray one on the next snap. Khalil Mack, who sees a lot of attention with Joey Bosa out, had his first sack since the 10th game.Coming off his best game, Michael Davis is playing as well as he has, and had an early pick off a terrible pass.
