Columbus police charged a Minerva Park woman with child endangerment Monday after her 5-year-old son died of suspected starvation.
Columbus police have charged a Minerva Park woman with felony child endangerment after they say her 5-year-old son died of conditions stemming from suspected prolonged starvation.
Saado Adam, 44, was charged after her son, whom police did not identify, was pronounced deceased around 1 p.m. Monday at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Detectives say medical staff at Nationwide Children's informed them that the child's medical condition stemmed from “prolonged starvation or massively inadequate feeding,” with either situation representing life-threatening medical neglect.
In an interview with detectives, police allege Adam told them that the child was sick for several weeks and had not been walking since November. Adam allegedly told detectives that she had not sought medical treatment for her child because voices in her head told her not to take him to the doctor.
