The Crew took a 2-0 lead before halftime against the LA Galaxy and held onto that lead in the second half for their first MLS win since April 8.
The Crew maintained their control throughout the rest of the first half, with several chances to extend their lead and few threatening looks for the Galaxy at the other end of the field. The Galaxy were able to find space to attack in transition moments, but the Crew recovered without conceding much in the way of dangerous opportunities.
Defender Malte Amundsen, making his first MLS start since September 10, 2022 with New York City FC, doubled the Crew's lead in the 43rd minute. Midfielder Alex Mățan swung the ball across the six-yard box to Amundsen waiting on the far post, and Amundsen headed it past Bond to give the Crew a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Galaxy committed more numbers into the attack in the second half as they worked to get back into the game, forcing the Crew to defend over and over again. When the Crew did hold possession, they were patient and methodical in their passing — looking more to take up time than chase a third goal. After playing against the ball for much of the second half, the Crew's first scoring chance of the second half came in the 77th minute. In contrast to their patient sequences of holding the ball earlier in the half, they worked quickly up the field and Hernandez fired a shot from distance that sailed wide of the far post.
The Galaxy continued to have the majority of the ball as the game drew to a close, but the Crew's defense kept them off the scoresheet. Goalkeeper Patrick Schulte made the necessary saves, and the Crew's back line cleared out several balls before they got through to Schulte. It wasn't a seamless second half for the Crew, but it was enough to earn them a win.
