The Columbus Blue Jackets will pay tribute to first responders tonight as they host the Winnipeg Jets on First Responders Night. Among those being honored is Da
nielle Renza, a Columbus police officer with a long-standing connection to the team.
Renza began her journey with the Blue Jackets as a member of the ice crew in 2019, where she was responsible for maintaining the ice during games. Her dedication and passion for the sport were evident, as her image of shoveling ice is prominently displayed next to the Zamboni tunnel at Nationwide Arena.
In recent years, Renza transitioned from the ice crew to law enforcement, now serving as an onsite police officer during Blue Jackets games. "The organization is my family. I know that sounds cheesy but I mean it genuinely. The officers who worked in the tunnel were the first people I talked to when I was considering becoming a police officer so they supported me through the entire experience.""The environment here at Nationwide , to me, is unmatched," Renza said. "Hockey in general has a very family-oriented feel and here at Nationwide, it's no different.
Renza, who also plays hockey, hopes to participate in the police vs. fire scrimmage at Nationwide Arena ahead of First Responders Night on Friday night.The Blue Jackets are looking to extend their winning streak to three games, with the first puck set to drop at 7 p.m.
