San Diego State caps sweep at New Mexico with Sunday's 19-7 victory; USD wins series vs. Pepperdine and Point Loma Nazarene takes series vs. Azusa Pacific
Twice this season, San Diego State has been poised to win all three games in a Mountain West series only for the sweep to elude the Aztecs by losing the third game.
On the mound, Fondtain pitched seven innings of one-run ball in which he struck out seven without walking a batter. At the plate, he went 5-for-9 with five RBIs. The junior left-hander leads the Aztecs in average and home runs and is second in RBIs . Two-way standout Austin Smith helped turned around the series, getting the win in Saturday’s victory with 3 2/3 innings of hitless shutout relief. His seventh-inning grand slam broke a 4-4 tie.
Sophomore catcher Jake Entrekin and sophomore outfielder Jack Malone had four and five RBIs, respectively, in the series.
