The Coast Guard said it has suspended its active search for a 7-year-old child, the third missing boater off Dauphin Island.
UPDATE: The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Flotilla on Monday morning is continuing to search for missing 7-year-old boater Hunter Slezak, according to a spokeswoman.
“The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Flotilla began assisting the US Coast Guard in the search for Hunter Slezak on Saturday, December 2, 2024,” wrote MCSO Public Affairs Director Lori Myles in an email to media. “We are continuing this morning at approximately 9:30 am. MCSO Flotilla will be launching out of Bayou La Batre. MCSO Special Operations Unit will assist with two additional boats.”According to the Facebook post by the Coast Guard, crews searched by air and sea for approximately 65.
Captain Robert Tucker, Coast Guard Sector Mobile, Deputy Commander, released the following statement: “We are deeply saddened and offer our sincerest condolences to the families, friends, and communities affected by this heartbreaking and tragic incident,” Suspending an active search for a missing child is an exceptionally difficult decision and is only made after the most exhaustive efforts have occurred. We thank all the search and rescue crews who worked with determination around the clock with hopes of a different outcome.
