But that did little to quell concerns among those who attended the event organized by the left-wing Sunrise Movement that included Sen. Bernie Sanders , who is also seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez .“Who here liked it when Joe Biden said he was middle of the road on climate policy?” asked Alexandra Rojas, executive director of Justice Democrats, a left-wing campaign group that is attacking Biden on social media.

“This is no time to turn back,” Biden said. “I’ve been saying for years that this is an existential threat that requires a green revolution. And it does. It does. . . . There’s no one who’s been stronger and more effective, I would respectfully suggest to you, on climate and the environment than me. Nobody.”

The plan has won broad support among Democratic activists and has been endorsed by several of the party’s presidential hopefuls. But it has been heavily criticized by Republicans, who argue that it is unrealistic and unaffordable and part of a lurch toward socialism by Democrats. Early polling has shown Biden with a large lead among the Democratic field both nationally an in early nominating states.
