In a news release Friday, Bibb said he listened to feedback from residents and city council members, who opposed the last-minute bagging requirement, and adjusted accordingly.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland will resume its traditional curbside leaf collection program on Nov. 14, Mayor Justin Bibb announced Friday, following backlash over his earlier directive to bag them.

In a news release Friday, Bibb said he listened to feedback from residents and members of city council,“We heard you and we are resuming the traditional program for 2022,” Bibb said. Residents citywide may still bag leaves and set them out with their trash on regular trash collection days for pickup throughout the season. They may also opt not to rake them or turn them into mulch or compost for their home gardens and landscapes.Bibb said the city will be re-evaluating the leaf collection program for the 2023 season to prioritize equity and build capacity.

The mayor thought a bagging system would put everyone on the same footing and save time, so Public Works staff could focus on preparing for snow and ice season, instead.
