Published: Feb. 22, 2024 at 4:45 PM AKSTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - One key to a healthy democracy is to have citizens who are engaged with the process.
From the mayor, to the police, to the fire department, it takes a village to keep the gears of government working in the City of Fairbanks. With all those moving parts, the city sees value in keeping its citizens informed about how it all works. “You increase attendance at public meetings, which then, obviously, it helps our city council know what citizens think about certain issues, right? So I think it benefits everybody,” she added.
This year, the city is offering the same opportunity for another group of up to 20 interested citizens. “This is an opportunity for citizens to sign up for free. There is no cost to this. We just ask that you have a commitment to attend most or all the sessions because there is limited enrollment,” said Snider.
