Birmingham University research shows links between childhood illness and developing mental illness.

Triggers for the inflammation could be genetic or due to childhood infection or anxiety, stress and trauma, authors said

They were also at higher risk of depression and diabetes, according to the research published in medical journal, Jama Psychiatry. An inflammatory marker known as c-reactive protein was measured when participants were nine, 15, and 17 years of age.
