A local pastor was arrested early Thursday night on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon — and police allege the weapon was an air rifle.
According to the Chico Police Department, its dispatch center received calls around 7:19 p.m. Thursday concerning a disturbance in a parking lot on Nord Avenue.
Police say that prior to their arrival, they were told someone may have been shot at the scene, and when their officers arrived they found one injured person who was bleeding from the arm and face. Police also say they were able to determine the person was shot with an air rifle. Police say they were provided with a possible suspect description and a direction of travel and were able to contact a man who may have been involved in the incident a short distance away.
The man, Vince Haynie, 59, was reportedly taken to the Chico Police Department for questioning. After concluding the questioning officers arrested Haynie on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon not a firearm with great bodily injury likely and transported him to Butte County Jail.
