A woman was found shot to death early Wednesday in southwest suburban Orland Park.
Police responded to a report of shots fired just after midnight near 170 Redbud Lane. At the crime scene, evidence markers covered nearly 30 bullet shell casings and officers found a vehicle with its headlights still on and the driver and passenger doors open. Mechellea Williams' body was lying on the ground.Despite life-saving measures, the 28-year-old was pronounced dead. Relatives say they're 100 percent sure Williams was not the intended target.
They need to find out what happened to my niece," Williams Cobb said.Family members said the young mother was a passenger inside the car along with some friends, including another female postal worker and two men.Relatives say Williams "wasn't a street person" and knew nothing about the area where she was killed.Police went door to door talking to neighbors and scanning surveillance footage for leads. Authorities have not released a motive as the killer remains at large.
