Four people challenging San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria for re-election harshly criticized him Thursday for declining to attend a candidate forum and defend his record. The challengers also accused the mayor of not seeking public input on where to put bike lanes and damaging neighborhood character by allowing too many backyard housing units.
' She said the mayor prefers to speak at events where he can't be questioned or criticized. 'A real leader can look at you in your face and listen to you about the most pressing issues and say 'I hear you,'' she said. 'He's not here to do that — fire him.'
