CenterPoint Energy to spend $200M to boost electricity infrastructure in Texas Medical Center

The Houston-based company plans to spend around $200 million on a series of projects in the Medical Center that are expected to be finished by 2025. It said that includes “system-hardening” projects meant to help protect the flow of electricity to homes and businesses in the area when intense weather hits.

“Strategically located substations and hardening projects are crucial parts of our investment plan to continue to satisfy load growth, accommodate new generation and maintain reliability requirements,” Lynnae Wilson, CenterPoint's senior vice president of electric business, said in a statement. The increase in electricity supply needed to meet growing demand, known as load growth, is expected to rise in the Medical Center, partially thanks to population growth.
