Just shy of 48 years after the first NJSIAA playoff football game was played, the historic, first Public Group Football Championships will be held Dec. 3-4 at Rutgers University.

The late Warren Wolf, who led Brick to the first on-the-field sectional championship in 1974, is pictured with his team in 1999 before earning his 300th career victory.Fittingly, the birthplace of college football, Rutgers University, will help spawn another New Jersey football first this weekend when it hosts the initial public school group championship finals at SHI Stadium.

Ten public football teams will vie for five NJSIAA/Rothman Orthopaedics championships across Saturday and Sunday in Piscataway, winning titles that have been 103 years in the making.
