The Cavs are HOT!
Cleveland shot jut 6 of 22 from the field in the second quarter and 1 of 9 from deep. Even worse, over the final seven minutes of the quarter, they scored only one basket -- a Garland stepback 3 from the top of the key at the 2:34 mark. They expanded that lead to 13 in the third, but the Cavs showed some fight in the waning minutes of the period. An and-1 layup and free throw by Mitchell got the Cavs to within 8.
Rubio struck again with 22 seconds left in the quarter, forcing a steal off a bad pass by DeMar DeRozan, and finding Garland for the breakaway layup, bringing Cleveland to within five, 72-67. The energy carried over for Cleveland early in the fourth as the Cavs started the quarter on a 7-0 run. Rubio once again made a game-changing play, ending the run with a swift behind-the-back move before tossing the ball out to Mitchell at the top of the key for a 3 and held the follow through that sent Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse into a frenzy.
As the final minutes came, Cleveland really leaned into its second wind. There was the play where Mitchell found Mobley cutting down the lane for a two-handed slam, putting the Cavs up eight with 6:02 left to play. And then there was the Garland 3-pointer from the left wing that put Cleveland up 11, 89-78 with 4:40 to go, for their largest lead of the night at that point.
