The Coyotes win their second league game of the season by outscoring the Cowboys 28-0 over the final two-plus quarters.

VALENCIA – It was a joyous night for the Castaic football team as an opportunistic defense led the way in a 35-7 win over Canyon in a Foothill League game Thursday night at Valencia High School.

Canyon answered with a fourth-down score of its own as quarterback Sebastian Martinez hit Jeremiah Taylor from 6 yards out to tie up the game at 7 apiece early in the second quarter. Castaic senior Gage Gibson returned a fumble for a key touchdown late and added a TD on offense in a 35-7 win over Canyon on Thursday, Sept. 28, at Valencia High School. The Coyotes recovered a fumble after the Cowboys couldn’t reel in a slightly backward pass in the flat, and Castaic turned that into another touchdown just a few plays later to increase the lead to 21-7 with 10:45 left in the fourth quarter.

The Coyotes forced a fumble at the 1-yard-line and the cornerback scooped up the free ball and returned it 95 yards for a touchdown, putting the game effectively out of reach at 28-7.“It just so happened that we stayed disciplined enough to pop the ball out right at the 1-yard-line, and when I saw the ball on the ground all I knew is that I had to run it,” the senior said. “And I knew that it would be a … changing point in our tempo for our team there.
