A California-based cashew supplier for grocery store chain Trader Joe's announced Tuesday it was recalling a lot of their cashews over concerns of contamination.
Specifically, the bags of nuts to avoid have the best before dates of Feb. 21, 2025, March 1, 2025, March 8, 2025 and March 10, 2025, will display the SKU number 37884, and were sold in Trader Joe's stores in 16 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Washington.
The salmonella bacteria can be fatal for young children, the elderly, the frail and those with weakened immune systems. Even healthy people can suffer strong symptoms like fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, as well as potentially bloody diarrhea. The FDA report states that the cashews, which were imported from India and Vietnam, tested positive for the bacteria upon import.
