Record levels of inflation, the rising cost of sugar, and drought conditions have all added up to make lighter loads for trick-or-treaters come Oct. 31, according to a report. Sugar and sweets alone have seen a price increase of 14.4%, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported, and the cost of snacks soared by 14.7%.
Still, the National Retail Federation predicts that families will spend over $10.6 billion on Halloween candy, cards, and decorations. The $10.6 billion mark would set a new record, but it would also come as families shell out more money for brands like Hershey, Nestle, and Mars, whose prices have all increased significantly.Overall prices for Hershey, the makers of Reese's, Kisses, Kit Kats, and Twizzlers, rose 14% this summer.
