Wallace was taken into custody and confessed to police that he had used a wetsuit, flotation devices, and swimming fins to swim across the St. Clair River and illegally enter the United States with the intention of stealing a firearm, according to an affidavit. After he stole a weapon, he was going to swim back to Canada, Wallace said.He wanted to steal a weapon because he had had his gun taken from him in Canada, according to Wallace.
Authorities seized the stolen items and the ammunition Wallace had on him, and he was charged with improper entry by an alien, possession of a stolen firearm, and alien in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to the report.
