Canada must build more electricity generation in the next 25 years than it has in a century to achieve net\u002Dzero emissions by 2050, a report says. Read on.

Later this summer Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault will publish new regulations to require all power to be generated from non-emitting sources by 2035.

“We need to move very quickly, and probably with a different approach, you know, no hurdles, no timeouts,” Greenspon said. Four provinces — New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Alberta and Saskatchewan — still rely heavily on coal or natural gas for their electricity. One year later it came up 88 times, with billions of dollars pledged to help build and transmit clean power.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford spent millions to cancel wind and solar projects when he first came to power only to reverse course in a recent report on Ontario’s looming power shortage and dedicate more funding to the renewable sources.Last week, however, Ontario Energy Minister Todd Smith outlined a power plan that includes billions in new nuclear projects as well as a return to wind and solar projects the government once called a waste of money.

But demand is growing faster than expected, and we’re not building new generation fast enough to keep up.“We’re going to have a tough 25 years,” Greenspon said.
