I think the success of any quarterback has so much to do with the receiving corps. How disciplined they are, you know, where they’re supposed to be and when they’re supposed to be there. And it’s kind of a touchy thing because if they’re not on the same page as a quarterback- let me take you back to Peyton Manning when he went down to Tampa Bay.
When Jon Kitna first got to Dallas as a quarterbacks coach a couple years back, he often said how heavy of an influence you had on him and that he wanted to instill the same philosophies you instilled in him in Dak. When you watch the tape of Dak do you see a guy that would have worked well in your system or was he a bit out of place last year?I think last year was a bit of an anomaly for him.

What is your general thought and approach to option routes?Oh, the option routes are really, really, really important, particularly on third down. We used a lot of the. I think the quarterback and the receiver have to see the same thing, obviously. But the thing that I saw when it doesn’t work with Dallas receivers, they didn’t come back to the ball.
