Park-goers and campers across Washington will see reduced access and fewer services at some Department of Natural Resources recreation sites this year because of state budget cuts, including seasonal closures and campground shutdowns.

At Harry Osborne State Forest outside of Sedro-Woolley, some trail users said they are frustrated about a seasonal closure planned later this year. The forest is scheduled to be shut down from December through March. People riding horses on the trails said they also understand the budget challenges the state is facing. The changes follow a $580,000 cut from the maintenance fund during the latest legislative session, prompting DNR to narrow its list of closures and service reductions statewide.

Storm recovery is expected to take longer; trailhead bathrooms will not be stocked, there could be more trash on trails, and sites will be less maintained and staffed.
