BERKELEY — Cal coach Justin Wilcox couldn’t find words to describe what he saw from his defense in a 52-40 loss to No. 15 Oregon State, but he knew exactly what to say about redshirt freshman Fernando Mendoza after his debut as starting quarterback.The Bears play the second of five consecutive games against Top-25 teams next Saturday when they face No. 18 Utah in Salt Lake City. Mendoza was downright giddy at the prospect.
