at the former El Rancho Restaurante & Pupuseria, just a short walk from the Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex. Two years ago, owners Juan Castaneda and Rose Ortiz visited Oaxaca, a large state in the southern part of Mexico.
Their restaurant focuses on breakfast and lunch with a menu of Mexican and American foods. Choices range from avocado toast and classic BLT’s to quesadillas, enchiladas and chilaquiles, a dish made from tortillas topped with homemade sauce, cheese, sour cream, onions and two eggs with a side of beans.
Many of the Mexican recipes are from Ortiz’s family. Her father owned a Mexican restaurant and her grandmother lives in Mexico and makes and ships Mexican hot chocolate and mole to the restaurant.
