El incidente tuvo lugar poco después de las 2 de la mañana tras el último show de la noche, cuando el público había abandonado la histórica sala conocida por sus espectáculos deslumbrantes y sus bailarinas de can-can.
Eric Lejoindre, alcalde del distrito XVIII de París, indicó que no había peligro de nuevas caídas, para alivio tanto de los parisinos como los turistas. El vecino Sylvain Lemerle dijo que por suerte nadie resultó lastimado.
