Arch 'Beaver' Aplin donated $50 million to the university to support the construction of a mass-timber academic center bearing his name.

A seven-month renovation of Houston Marriott South at Hobby Airport included the redesign of all 290 guest rooms, according to Atrium Hospitality, the hotel's management company.Arch “Beaver” Aplin III, founder of the Buc-ee’s convenience store chain known by road trippers for its Texas snacks, clean restrooms and Beaver mascot, is bringing his hospitality to his alma mater at Texas A&M University.

Located near Kyle Field at Wellborn Road and John Kimbrough Boulevard, the center will support programs in hospitality, retail studies and food product development. It is planned to have indoor and outdoor recreation spaces and retail and food service areas managed by students and faculty. The plaza between One and Two Memorial City Plaza provides places for office workers to meet or take breaks.Built in the 1980s and 1990s, the buildings consist of the 12-story One Memorial City Plaza at 800 Gessner, 18-story Two Memorial City Plaza at 820 Gessner and 14-story Three Memorial City Plaza at 840 Gessner.

The renovated lobby of the Two Memorial City Plaza office building has multiple seating areas and a Common Bond On-The Go bakery and coffee shop."Tenants don't want to go into an amenity desert," Ziegler said."They want to go into an amenity rich district near where they live."
