Brush fire briefly threatened museum at Presidio Park [Breaking]
A small brush fire at Presidio Park briefly threatened the Junípero Serra Museum on Sunday afternoon, but firefighters protected the historic building from the flames.
The fire started about 4:50 p.m. in the park, located just south of Interstate 8 and east of Interstate 5. The blaze engulfed heavy brush and posed a threat to the museum, prompting firefighters to call for additional crews and resources, officials said. A San Diego Fire-Rescue Department helicopter dropped water as crews on the ground protected the building, which was not damaged. The fire charred about a half-acre before it was stopped around 5:25 p.m.Owned and operated by the San Diego History Center, the Junípero Serra Museum showcases the history of San Diego. It sits on a historical landmark — the site of the first permanent European settlement in what now is the state of California.
