Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Kyle Freeland delivers during the first inning of a baseball game against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, Calif., Wednesday, July 31, 2024. The Rockies’ big three carried them to one of their most satisfying victories of the season on Wednesday night at Anaheim Stadium.
Doyle’s game-clinching blast might have won him the National League player-of-the-month award for July. In 25 games, he is hitting .333 with 11 home runs, seven doubles, and 27 RBIs. His 19 extra-base hits led the majors in July. Freeland was brilliant, conjuring up memories of his 2018 season when he went 17-7 with a 2.85 ERA and finished fourth in voting for the National League Cy Young Award.
Freeland’s only mistake was leaving a curveball over the plate in the fifth that O’Hoppe lined over the right-field fence to tie the game 1-1.
