Receiver Brandin Cooks had hoped to be traded during the season and says again he doesn't...
Brett Coomer/Staff photographerDuring his exit interview Monday, he reiterated his desire to go somewhere he could compete for a championship. And with the Texans, that likely won’t happen any time soon.
“That window where your gifts are at its peak only last for so long,” Cooks said. “So for me, I’m not looking at it being part of a rebuild.”fired coach Lovie Smith on Sunday nightCooks, who signed an extension last offseason, asked Caserio to be traded before the NFL’s Nov. 1 trade deadline after the Texans had struggled through the first few weeks. But the Texans couldn’t find a team willing to take on part of Cooks’ $18 million in guaranteed salary that he is owed next year.
On Sunday against the Colts, Cooks finished with five catches for 106 yards and a touchdown. It was his first 100-yard receiving game of the season. He finished the year with 57 catches for 699 yards and three touchdowns in 13 games. It was only the third time in his nine-year career that he did not finish with a 1,000-yard receiving season. Cooks has been traded three times in his career. If Cooks were to be traded, he would tie Eric Dickerson’s record for the most times a player has been traded in NFL history.
“My prayer, I hope I loved everybody in this building the best way that I can,” Cooks said. “Obviously, every time I put that uniform on, I played my heart out for this organization, these fans. It’s unfortunate we couldn’t get anything done my three years here, but when I walk away and I leave throughout the offseason, I just hope everybody felt the love from me, and everyone understood I tried to be leader I could possibly be.
