A former boy scout employee was indicted Thursday after he was accused of having and distributing hundreds of child pornography images and videos via email, some of which depicted children who were secretly recorded while using bathrooms at New Jersey camps where he worked, federal prosecutors said. William Mickel, 69, of Lake Hopatcong, worked at unspecified boy scout camps and allegedly possessed and received the files between February and April 2022, according to a statement from the US Attorney’s Office. It was unclear exactly how long he worked for the Boy Scouts.
It was also unclear if Mickel was the one who allegedly recorded the children in the camp bathrooms or if he just had those files in his possession. A spokesperson for US Attorney’s Office could not immediately be reached for clarification.
