Bolivian Catholic Church admits to being 'deaf' to sexual abuse of children by pedophile priests following publication of a late Jesuit priest's diary that contained multiple confessions
Roman Catholic Church leaders in the South American country admit the institution had been "deaf" to sexual abuse in Church-run schools by priests.Giovani Arana [L] speaking during a press conference in which he announced the creation of a National Listening Commission and a National Investigation Commission to determine responsibilities and make visible what happened in the cases of sexual abuse in La Paz.
Giovani Arana, secretary general of the Bolivian Episcopal Conference, said in a statement on Wednesday that"instead of giving them the protection and care they deserved, [the victims] met a Church deaf to their suffering." On Monday, Bolivian President Luis Arce wrote to Pope Francis to request files on sexual abuse committed by Catholic priests in the South American country.
