Talia Benward's body was discovered in a remote area of Tooele County after a search by police and sheriff's deputies. Authorities believe she may have been murdered and are searching for her ex-boyfriend, Nestor Rocha-Aguayo.
The body of a missing woman was found in a remote area of Tooele County on Saturday morning, police said. Family members reported Talia Benward missing to the Unified Police Department on Thursday, Jan. 2. A team of UPD officers, detectives, and Salt Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were quickly assigned to investigate her disappearance due to the nature and circumstances of the case.
Authorities said early evidence led them to believe Benward was either being held against her will by a violent ex-boyfriend or was dead. A search crew was deployed to a remote area of Tooele County, where they suspected Benward may have been. The area’s vast size, heavy vegetation, frigid temperatures, and pitch-black darkness made conditions difficult. K9 units were brought in to assist. At 5:20 a.m. Friday, Benward’s body was found by one of the search teams. It was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Police said it appeared Benward may have suffered blunt force trauma and trauma to her neck. Police are now seeking 24-year-old Nestor Rocha-Aguayo of West Valley City in connection with the case. Authorities urge anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact UPD at 801-840-4000. “We believe he is still in Salt Lake City and ask individuals not to confront him but to call police,” officials said
