Dozens of people have gotten sick from listeria tied to deli-sliced meats so far.
The deli provider Boar’s Head has recalled 200,000 pounds of meat over listeria concerns, federal health officials said Friday. Suppliers began removing meats from delis as early as this past Wednesday, according to New York city health officials and deli owners.
“We're working really hard to get this message out and make sure that removed, but that does take some time,” Vasudha Reddy, deputy director in charge of communicable diseases at the city’s health department, said in a phone interview. “Boar’s Head came here and said, ‘We got to take back this particular meat because it's recalled,” he said. “They took it back, they walked out with it.”The managers of two other delis in the neighborhood said they were unaware of the recall.Matthew Katz, a neighborhood resident, canceled his lunch order when told of the recall — “because I don’t want to get sick.”
