A Black woman publisher receives a historic award, highlighting the importance of serving the Black community. Meanwhile, offshore wind energy is rapidly expanding in New York State, creating significant job opportunities.

We’ve been reporting the news of the day from a Black perspective since 1909 – the first time in the 125 years of this award it has been given to a Black woman publisher – We are proud to provide no paywall journalism for the Black community we serve, the largest Black and Brown community in the country.
Offshore wind farms are set to become a major source of electricity in New York State — it will soon be common to see strong ocean winds driving turbine blades that transmit energy via underwater cables to power generators. We've been reporting the news of the day from a Black perspective since 1909 - The state currently has five offshore wind projects in active development off the Atlantic Coast, and according to the New York State Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), “is well on the way to developing 9,000 megawatts of offshore wind energy by 2035, enough to power up to 6 million homes.” And that will be a good thing for labor.. “They’re building some wind turbines and bids are going out now for more wind turbines. Our job in the labor unions is to prepare our members and future members for this kind of work that’s coming out, because you’re going to need a lot of for everything from underwater stuff to what we do as painters and coatings, and electrical –– you’re going to need a large workforce in the next few years.” The union is focusing on younger future workers for these opportunities. “Our job is to do the training and let high school kids know that there’s a future in this industry and you can make a lot of money,” Lomax sai
