An Italian judge called the freeloading sons “bamboccioni” or “big babies” in her ruling.
The plaintiff, identified only as a 75-year-old retiree living in the northern city of Pavia, had filed a lawsuit in the Tribunal of Pavia, accusing her sons, ages 40 and 42, of overstaying their welcome,According to the complaint, both grown men, whom the disgruntled parent labeled “parasites” in the court filing, are employed but have continued living in her apartment rent-free.
The duo of moochers have not been contributing financially, or even helping around the house with chores, the lawsuit claimed. “There is no provision in the legislation which attributes to the adult child the unconditional right to remain in the home exclusively owned by the parents, against their will and by virtue of the family bond alone,” she wrote in her decisionIn Italy, it is common and culturally acceptable for grown children in their 30s to still be living with their parents.
Armed with this knowledge, the woman’s sons have lawyered up and countersued their mother to stop her from evicting them, arguing that Italian parents are obligated by law to “maintain” — or support — their children as long as needed.
