President Joe Biden proposed establishing a better inventory of unmanned airborne objects in U.S. airspace and improving the country’s capacity to detect such objects, among other proposed changes.

President Joe Biden on Thursday outlined four new steps that his administration will take, as he aimed to address Americans’ concerns about aerial objects that have been shot from the sky this month.

U.S. fighter jets shot down three high-altitude objects that were above the U.S. and Canada over the prior weekend, with those moves following the downing of a suspected Chinese spy balloon on Feb. 4. “The intelligence community’s current assessment is that these three objects were most likely balloons tied to private companies, recreation or research institutions, studying weather or conducting other scientific research,” Biden said.

“We’re now just seeing more of them, partially because of the steps we’ve taken to increase our radars, to narrow our radars,” the president said.
