Behind the Biscuits: Mac Horvath
United States Latest News,United States Headlines

In this week's 'Behind the Biscuits,' Sports Director Lindsey Bonner sits down with outfielder Mac Horvath.

Before Mac Horvath began making a name for himself within the Rays Organization, he started as a Tar Heel at the University of North Carolina.

Horvath played for the Tar Heels from 2021-2023.

“The first year was definitely really rough. I started opening day at third and just didn’t perform very well for the first however many games, I think I was like one for 20 or something, and just kept working and found my way in the lineup.

I think this game you deal with so much failure, so honestly, I think failing right away was probably the best thing for me to figure out how to handle it, how to deal with it on a day-to-day basis, because not every day you’re gonna play really well. There’s gonna be streaks where you’re hot and streaks where you’re cold, so I think really learning that right away is probably a huge benefit to me,” says Horvath.

Following his Junior season, Horvath was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the second round as the 53rd overall pick in the 2023 draft. Horvath explains that he didn’t even know it was Baltimore where he would end up, he originally thought it was going to be Seattle.

“The first round went by, and the start of the second my agent called me, told me that the Mariners wanted to take me and he said he would call me back and let me know, and their pick was coming up. I think the Orioles had the pick two or three before them and he didn’t call me back so I assumed I was going there, it was a shock to me because I had no clue.

And then, the Orioles announced that they picked me and it was a great feeling,” explains Horvath. Horvath only staying with the Orioles Organization from July of 2023 to July of 2024 when he was traded to the Rays. Your next chance to see Mac and the rest of the Biscuits is this weekend at DABOS Park as they wrap up their series with the Biloxi Shuckers.
