Batman Mad Max
Summary Batman trades his Batmobile for a V8 Interceptor in a recent piece of fan art, as the Dark Knight travels to the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Mad Max. While the two characters are from totally different universes, the mashup makes sense when considering the similarities between Bruce Wayne and Max Rockatansky, which could result in an epic team-up.
Batman takes the Grant Morrison description of him as a “hairy-chested love-god” to heart in the piece, adapting to the scorching desert by losing both his shirt and long-tights. Mattmirth is also clever in incorporating Emil Minty’s Feral Kid as a stand-in for Robin, complete with his own enlarged batarang.
Batman and Mad Max Are Similar Characters In More Ways Than One Close There are some notable similarities between Max Rockatansky and Bruce Wayne. Both lost loved ones in desperate acts of violence, and both ride around in tricked-out supercars that are usually the fastest thing on four wheels. Mattmirth highlights this last character "trait" by turning Max’s V8 Interceptor into the new Batmobile, adding some bat-like tail fins to complete the look.
The inclusion of the Feral Kid as Robin is a nice touch, and this new character is just begging for their own story. Mad Max wasn’t exactly known for taking on sidekicks, but he did act as a mentor to the Feral Kid in The Road Warrior and to the group of kids in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Much like Batman himself, Max Rockatansky finds himself acting as a mentor to the younger generations in spite of his aloof and cold nature.
