Joker in 1989 Batman and Penguin in Batman Returns
The latest addition to Tim Burton’s Batman franchise reveals what the villains of Batman Returns thought of Jack Nicholson’s Joker from 1989’s Batman. Batman Returns is set in the same continuity as 1989’s Batman, but the DC film made only a few small callbacks to the events of its predecessor.

As Catwoman, Selina Kyle was a menace in her own right, and while she did not poison the city like Joker or perpetrate a mass rocket attack like The Penguin, she was a skilled and cunning fighter.
