Founder and CTO of Basecamp David Heinemeier Hansson has a message for managers: Work is crazy because you're making it crazy.
He's been an outspoken about the need for calmer managers and the issues with hustle culture. He says it's"cool" to work a regular 9 to 5, and have time for things that are important.
It's your job to fix the damn workplace, not run away from it. Stop playing calendar Tetris with a whole organization. Stop loading up on meetings. Stop demanding endless status reports. Stop interrupting everyone all the time with stuff that can wait. But it's hard to fix that which you don't know is broken. So let me spell it out: Having to get up at 4 a.m. to get real work done is broken. Busted. Kaput.
