Got plans in the East Bay this weekend? Be prepared to make some adjustments if you normally take BART.
The agency is closing its yellow line — which runs from San Francisco International Airport to Antioch — this weekend in what is the first of five non-consecutive weekend closures.
According to BART, the project will replace over 1½ miles of worn track between Rockridge and Orinda that is"decades old and has outlived its design life. Riders will enjoy a smoother, safer, more reliable and quieter ride once the projects are complete." Free buses will replace service over this stretch of track and riders can expect delays of almost 30 minutes when traveling between the two destinations.
Each night of the weekend shutdowns will impact the last scheduled departure from Antioch to Orinda. Instead of catching the 11:44 p.m. train, riders traveling westbound from Antioch will have to catch the earlier train, which departs at 11:14 p.m. Free buses will replace service over this stretch of track, and riders can expect delays of almost 30 minutes when traveling between the two destinations. BART's Trip Planner has been updated to include these bus bridges.
