In a new interview, backstreetboys' AJ McLean spoke about his 20-year battle with substance abuse and addiction.
The 42-year-old singer said when his bandmates began noticing his irregular behavior, he skipped rehearsals."They basically broke into my house, and they dumped ice water on me while I was passed out in my bed," McLean toldIn July 2001, the group confronted McLean and encouraged him to seek treatment. He still remembers Kevin Richardson's last words to him during their crucial conversation:"If I continued using, he said, 'I will never trust you again.
interview, McLean attends virtual 12-step meetings every day and checks in with his sponsor six times a day while currently competing on the 29th season of ABC's dancing competition series. "The silver lining of the pandemic for me is that I can really work on myself, get to a meeting every day and build a foundation of recovery before going back on tour next year," he told the magazine."As hard as it is to say, I have zero regrets and am beyond lucky to still be here. I can genuinely say I love myself today."
