A new study reveals rising temperatures are harming bumblebee populations by disrupting the ideal nest environment.
Bumblebees play a crucial role in our ecosystem by pollinating our food supply. However, their population has been shrinking since the 1950s.
“It’s remarkable that all the way from the high Arctic to the tropics, bumblebees seem to have the same sort of nest temperature requirements,” stated Kevin. It is notable that bumblebees try to protect their babies by flapping their wings to keep the nest cool. But scientists fear this natural defense might crumble as global warming intensifies.
This new research has highlighted rising global temperatures as a particularly difficult issue for bumblebees to overcome.
