No. 15 Utah rallies past San Diego State to advance to Women's College World Series; could Aztecs join Utes in Pac-12 soon?
Stacey Nuveman Deniz shed a few tears moments before taking the podium postgame. But even though San Diego State’s softball season had ended with a 7-2 loss to No. 15 Utah in Game 3 of the NCAA Super Regionals, her tone exuded optimism and pride for what the Aztecs accomplished in 2023.
It was ending fitting for a university that is preparing to make a jump to a Power 5 conference. Nuveman Deniz alluded to that possibility after Sunday’s game, saying she’s “cautiously optimistic” about joining a major conference and the opportunities and resources that come with it. “Obviously we ran up against a great Utah team, but I couldn’t think of anything other than this being a success in terms of how we competed, how we showed up,” Nuveman Deniz said.
