San Diego State, which shared regular season championship for first time in 19 years, looks to win record seventh Mountain West tourney title
Fondtain is scheduled to start SDSU’s second game, against either San Jose State or Fresno State.
Fondtain has thrown at least six innings in his past 11 starts, highlighted by a no-hitter against Nevada, and did not allow more than three earned runs in any of his MW appearances.Bercovich has made only three appearances this season — all starts over the past five weeks — totaling 5 2/3 innings in his return from Tommy John surgery.
He did have success against Air Force two weeks ago, going 2 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run. If SDSU can cobble things together against the Falcons with Bercovich and a couple relievers, then its sets them up with Fondtain and sophomore left-hander Chris Canada to start thereafter.On offense, Fondtain leads the team in homers and is second in RBIs behind junior catcher Poncho Ruiz .
The team’s other run producers include junior outfielder Cole Carrigg , sophomore third baseman Tino Bethancourt , junior shortstop Xavier Gonzalez and junior second baseman Caden Miller .Games will be streamed on the Mountain West Network .
