Ayana Gibbs M.D., Ph. D. is a psychiatrist based in the UK. She is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and on the specialist register in Forensic Psychiatry.
She completed training in general and forensic psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital and has a PhD in Neuroscience from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience , both in London. She has worked in a variety of public sector mental health settings including community out-patient clinics, acute psychiatric wards, maximum security hospitals and prisons in the UK.
She was recently on the medical faculty at the University of Sussex where her research interest has focused on pharmacogenetics of cognition, mood and behaviour and the application to personalized treatment of psychiatric disorders including depression, schizophrenia and ADHD. She has had several publications on these topics in peer-reviewed scientific journals. She presently works as a pharmaceutical physician and is involved in the development of novel treatments for mental disorders including depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and Alzheimer’s dementia.
She also continues to see patients as an Honorary Consultant psychiatrist with the Centre for Affective Disorders at the Maudsley Hospital and provides private telepsychiatry consultations. She conducts pharmacogenetics research as a visiting researcher at the IoPPN and visiting faculty at the University of Sussex.
