Firefighting is a tough job, and the long work week can literally make it unbearable. On Monday a group of Austin Firefighters will be talking with Austin City
Council members about reducing the firefighters’ work week which right now is 52 hours.
It's budget time for the City of Austin, and Austin firefighters are asking the city council to help create 25 new positions to help reduce the typical firefighter’s work week and give them more time to mentally reset. But more than anything, the training day was an opportunity to reach out to first responders and let them know they're not alone and there is help out there. Zac Butoryak with Cedar Park Fire Department told us, “We definitely don't want to go to the funeral for a fallen brother who took his own life because he didn't have somewhere to go, someone to talk to, someone who understood the plight of what he was dealing with.
